A static character, one who remains unchanged throughout the narrative, can often make a story feel flat. True character growth, or a character arc, is fundamental to compelling storytelling. It’s about showing how your protagonist (or even supporting characters) is fundamentally transformed by the challenges they face and the choices they make. This doesn’t always mean a positive transformation; it can be a descent, a realisation, or a subtle shift in perspective. Show, don’t tell, their growth through their actions, decisions, internal conflicts, and reactions to others.
