In the vast landscape of the internet, we often find ourselves inadvertently enclosed within “filter bubbles” and “echo chambers.” Algorithms curate our online experience, showing us content that aligns with our past preferences and beliefs, while echo chambers are reinforced by our tendency to connect with like-minded individuals. While these can create comfort and a sense of belonging, they also severely limit our exposure to diverse perspectives and dissenting opinions. This can lead to a distorted view of reality, increased polarisation, and a diminished capacity for empathy towards those outside our bubble. Breaking free requires conscious effort to seek out varied viewpoints and engage critically with information.
